Saulos Chilima, born on February twelfth, nineteen seventy-three, was a prominent Malawian economist and politician. He served as the Vice President of Malawi from two thousand fourteen to two thousand nineteen and resumed office in June two thousand twenty, after winning the majority alongside presidential candidate Lazarus Chakwera.
Before his political career, Chilima held significant leadership roles in several multinational corporations, including Unilever, Coca-Cola, and Airtel Malawi, where he ultimately became the Chief Executive Officer. His expertise in economic planning and development was further recognized when he served as the Minister of Economic Planning and Development, as well as the Head of Public Sector Reforms, a role he previously held under former president Peter Mutharika.
Tragically, on June tenth, two thousand twenty-four, Chilima's life was cut short when a plane carrying him and eight other passengers crashed in Chikangawa Forest Reserve, Mzimba District, resulting in the loss of all onboard. His state funeral was attended by at least forty-one thousand people, reflecting the profound impact he had on the nation.
