Saw Maung

Saw Maung, born on December thirty-first, nineteen twenty-eight, was a prominent figure in Burmese politics and military leadership. He rose to prominence as the Chairman of the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC) and served as Prime Minister of Burma from nineteen eighty-eight until nineteen ninety-two. His tenure was marked by significant political turmoil and challenges, particularly regarding his decisions that favored the renowned opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

As the eighth Commander-in-Chief of the Tatmadaw, Saw Maung played a crucial role in shaping the military's influence in Burmese governance. His leadership style and policies were often contentious, leading to his eventual deposition by rival generals who opposed his approach. This power struggle highlighted the complexities of military and political dynamics in Burma during that era.

In a notable achievement, Saw Maung became the first Burmese general to be awarded the rank of Senior General, a title specifically created for him in nineteen ninety.
