Sayumi Michishige, born on July 13, 1989, in Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, is a celebrated former Japanese singer, actress, and model. She is best known as a sixth-generation member and the former leader of the iconic J-pop group Morning Musume. Michishige's remarkable tenure in the group began in 2003, when she joined alongside fellow members Eri Kamei, Miki Fujimoto, and Reina Tanaka, debuting with the single 'Shabondama'.
Her leadership and presence in Morning Musume were significant, especially following the departure of fifth-generation member Risa Niigaki on October 12, 2013. Michishige held the record for the longest tenure of any member in the group's history, a record she maintained until it was surpassed by ninth-generation members Mizuki Fukumura and Erina Ikuta in December 2022.
In addition to her role in Morning Musume, Michishige served as a mentor to seventh-generation member Koharu Kusumi until Kusumi's departure in December 2009. She was also part of the Hello! Project unit Ecomoni, collaborating with former Morning Musume member Rika Ishikawa.
