Scott A. Brison, born on May 10, 1967, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, is a prominent Canadian politician and business leader. He made history as the first openly gay Member of Parliament (MP) to represent the Progressive Conservative Party, serving the riding of Kings—Hants from June nineteen ninety-seven to July two thousand and again from November two thousand to February two thousand nineteen.

Brison's political journey took a significant turn in 2003 when he crossed the floor to join the Liberal Party, shortly after the merger of the Progressive Conservatives and the Canadian Alliance into the Conservative Party of Canada. His tenure in Parliament included a notable role as the Minister of Public Works and Government Services from two thousand four to two thousand six under Prime Minister Paul Martin.

Recognized for his leadership potential, Brison was named one of the World Economic Forum's 'Young Global Leaders' in two thousand five. He later served as the Liberal Party's Finance Critic during the opposition years from two thousand six to two thousand thirteen and held the position of President of the Treasury Board of Canada in Justin Trudeau's cabinet until January two thousand nineteen.

On January ten, two thousand nineteen, Brison announced his decision not to seek re-election and subsequently stepped down from his cabinet role. He officially resigned his seat in the House of Commons on February six, two thousand nineteen. Following his departure from politics, he transitioned to the private sector, taking on the role of vice-chair of investment and corporate banking at the Bank of Montreal and joining the advisory board of the Canadian American Business Council.
