After being drafted in the first round, thirtieth overall, in the two thousand Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves, Thorman showcased his talent on a global stage. He represented Canada in the inaugural two thousand six World Baseball Classic and again in the two thousand nine edition, solidifying his status as a key player in Canadian baseball history.

In his coaching career, Thorman has taken on various leadership roles within the Kansas City Royals organization. He served as the manager of the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Royals' Triple-A affiliate, in two thousand twenty-two, and previously managed the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, the Royals' Double-A affiliate.
