Seasick Steve's musical career began in the late nineteen sixties, during which he worked as a musician and recording engineer across the United States and Europe. He played bass in the band Shanti and was also a member of the disco group Crystal Grass, among other musical endeavors. His versatility in the industry is further highlighted by his role as a producer for the band Modest Mouse.

His breakthrough came in the United Kingdom at the end of two thousand six when he made a memorable appearance on Jools Holland's annual Hootenanny. This performance marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career, leading to the release of several commercially successful albums, including 'I Started Out with Nothin and I Still Got Most of It Left,' 'Man from Another Time,' and 'Sonic Soul Surfer.'
