Sebastian Kurz

Sebastian Kurz, born on August twenty-seventh, nineteen eighty-six, is a notable figure in Austrian politics, having served as Chancellor of Austria on two occasions. His first term spanned from two thousand seventeen to two thousand nineteen, followed by a second term from two thousand twenty to two thousand twenty-one. Raised in Meidling, Vienna, Kurz embarked on his political journey by joining the Young People's Party in two thousand three, quickly ascending through the ranks.

His initial government role came in two thousand eleven when he was appointed as state secretary responsible for the social integration of refugees. Following the legislative elections in two thousand thirteen, he became Austria's foreign minister, a position he held until December two thousand seventeen. In May two thousand seventeen, Kurz took over as chairman of the ÖVP and emerged as the chancellor candidate for the legislative elections, advocating for modernization in politics and addressing pressing social and immigration issues.

His campaign resonated with voters, leading to a significant victory and the formation of a coalition with the far-right Freedom Party of Austria. Despite being credited with fulfilling many campaign promises during his first term, his leadership style faced criticism for being uncooperative. The coalition ultimately collapsed due to political scandals, including the infamous Ibiza affair, resulting in his ousting.

After a snap election in two thousand nineteen, Kurz returned to power, this time forming a coalition with the Green Party. His second term was marked by the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which necessitated lockdowns and curfews. However, ongoing investigations related to the Ibiza affair and a corruption inquiry led to his resignation in October two thousand twenty-one. Although he stepped down as Chancellor, he retained influence as party chair and parliamentary leader, earning the moniker 'shadow chancellor' until he exited politics entirely two months later to work as a global strategist for Peter Thiel.

Notably, Kurz was the youngest chancellor in Austrian history and held the title of the youngest head of government worldwide for approximately four years. His youthful approach and political vision played a significant role in revitalizing the conservative movement in Austria and across Europe.
