Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Selena

Selena, born on April 16, 1971, was an iconic American singer-songwriter celebrated as the "Queen of Tejano Music." Her remarkable contributions to popular music and fashion established her as one of the most revered Mexican-American entertainers of the late twentieth century. Often referred to as the "Tejano Madonna" due to her bold clothing choices, Selena's influence extended beyond music, making her a cultural icon.

The youngest member of the Quintanilla family, Selena began her musical journey with the band Selena y Los Dinos, which featured her siblings A.B. and Suzette. Despite facing criticism and limited opportunities in the male-dominated Tejano music scene during the 1980s, her talent shone through. In 1987, she won the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year, a title she would hold for nine consecutive years, marking the beginning of her rise to fame.

In 1989, Selena signed with EMI Latin and released her self-titled debut album. Her subsequent album, Entre a Mi Mundo, released in 1992, achieved remarkable success, topping the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight consecutive months. The album's hit single, "Como la Flor," became one of her signature songs. Her live album, Live!, won the Grammy Award for Best Mexican/American Album in 1994, making her the first female Tejano artist to receive this honor.

Tragically, Selena's life was cut short when she was murdered on March 31, 1995, by Yolanda Saldívar, her friend and former manager. Following her death, Texas Governor George W. Bush declared April 16 as Selena Day. Her posthumous album, Dreaming of You, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, making her the first Latin artist to achieve this milestone. The 1997 film Selena, starring Jennifer Lopez, further immortalized her legacy, while Netflix's Selena: The Series in 2020 introduced her story to a new generation. With approximately eighteen million records sold worldwide, Selena remains one of the best-selling female artists in Latin music history.
