Seleucus of Seleucia

Seleucus of Seleucia, born in one hundred ninety BC, was a prominent figure in the realms of astronomy, mathematics, and philosophy during the Hellenistic period. Originating from Seleucia on the Tigris, the capital of the Seleucid Empire, he made significant contributions to the understanding of celestial phenomena.

Best known for his advocacy of heliocentrism, Seleucus challenged the geocentric views of his time, proposing that the sun, rather than the Earth, was at the center of the universe. This revolutionary idea laid the groundwork for future astronomical discoveries and shifted the paradigm of cosmic understanding.
