Serge Bernier

Serge Bernier, born on April twenty-ninth, nineteen forty-seven, is a distinguished Canadian former professional ice hockey right winger. His career spanned seven seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL), where he showcased his talent with the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, and Quebec Nordiques. Additionally, he played six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for Quebec, where he amassed a remarkable total of three hundred and eight combined goals across both leagues between nineteen sixty-eight and nineteen eighty-one.

During his time in the WHA, Bernier scored two hundred and thirty goals, ranking him third in the Nordiques' history in the league, trailing only Real Cloutier and Marc Tardif. Notably, he was the first draft pick in Philadelphia Flyers history, earning him the affectionate nickname 'Toutou,' which translates to 'Big Teddy Bear' in English.

On January twenty-eighth, nineteen seventy-two, Bernier was traded from the Flyers to the Kings, along with Bill Lesuk and Jim Johnson, in exchange for Ross Lonsberry, Bill Flett, Jean Potvin, and Eddie Joyal. His most remarkable achievement came during the nineteen seventy-seven WHA playoffs, where he led the postseason with thirty-six points, including twenty-two assists and fourteen goals, helping the Nordiques secure the Avco World Trophy for the only time in franchise history. For his outstanding performance, he was honored as the WHA Playoff MVP.

In two thousand ten, Bernier was recognized for his contributions to the sport by being part of the inaugural group of players inducted into the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy in the world of ice hockey.
