Sergei Mavrodi

Sergei Mavrodi, born on August 11, 1955, was a multifaceted figure in Russian society, known for his roles as a politician, memoirist, prose writer, screenwriter, and entrepreneur. His most notorious claim to fame was as the founder of the МММ scheme, which became infamous for defrauding millions of individuals worldwide.

In 2007, Mavrodi faced legal repercussions when he was convicted in a Russian court for defrauding ten thousand investors out of one hundred ten million rubles, equivalent to approximately four point three million dollars. Despite the gravity of the charges, he maintained that he was not the beneficiary of the donations and that his lifestyle was far from extravagant.

The conviction stemmed from tax fraud, although Mavrodi argued that the MMM scheme was not a business but rather a mutual donation program, a claim he believed was beyond the reach of legal scrutiny. Following his release, he continued to make headlines, asserting that MMM Global played a significant role in the rally of bitcoin prices.
