Sergei Ponomarenko

Sergei Ponomarenko, born on October sixth, nineteen sixty, is a distinguished figure in the world of ice dancing. A former competitive ice dancer, he represented the Soviet Union and later the Unified team, showcasing his exceptional talent on the global stage.

Teaming up with his wife, Marina Klimova, Ponomarenko achieved remarkable success in their sport. Together, they captured the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games, solidifying their legacy in ice dancing history. Their impressive accolades also include a silver medal from the 1988 Olympics and a bronze medal from the 1984 Olympics.

In addition to their Olympic triumphs, Ponomarenko and Klimova are celebrated as three-time World champions and four-time European champions, demonstrating their dominance in the sport throughout their competitive careers.

After retiring from competition, Sergei transitioned into coaching and technical roles, contributing his expertise as a figure skating coach, technical specialist, and assistant technical specialist, nurturing the next generation of ice dancers.
