Sergey Belyavsky

Sergey Belyavsky, born on December seventh, eighteen eighty-three in St. Petersburg, was a prominent Soviet and Russian astronomer renowned for his significant contributions to the field of astronomy. He is credited with the discovery of thirty-six numbered minor planets, showcasing his exceptional skills in astrophotometry and astrometry.

Throughout his illustrious career, Belyavsky was a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, where he made notable advancements in the study of variable stars. His work at the Simeiz Observatory in Crimea was particularly fruitful, leading to the discovery of the bright naked-eye comet C/1911 S3, also known as Comet 1911 IV or Comet 1911g.

From nineteen thirty-seven to nineteen forty-four, he served as the seventh director of the Pulkovo Observatory, succeeding Boris Gerasimovich. Belyavsky's legacy in the astronomical community is marked by his dedication and passion for the cosmos, which continued until his passing in Leningrad on October thirteenth, nineteen fifty-three.
