Sergio Mantovani

Sergio Mantovani, born on May 22, 1929, in Milan, Italy, was a notable figure in the world of motorsport, particularly as a Formula One driver. His career in the prestigious racing series began on September 13, 1953, when he made his debut, showcasing his talent behind the wheel.

Throughout his time in Formula One, Mantovani participated in eight World Championship Grands Prix, starting seven of those races exclusively for the Maserati team. His performances were commendable, with his best results being two fifth-place finishes, which earned him a total of four championship points.

In addition to his Formula One endeavors, Mantovani also competed in non-Championship events, where he achieved notable success, finishing third in both the Syracuse and Rome Grands Prix in 1954. These accomplishments highlighted his skill and determination as a racing driver.

Tragically, Mantovani's career was cut short when he lost a leg in a devastating crash during practice for the 1955 Valentino Grand Prix.
