Sergio Obeso Rivera

Sergio Obeso Rivera, born on October thirty-first, nineteen thirty-one, was a distinguished Mexican prelate of the Catholic Church. His ecclesiastical journey began as the Bishop of Papantla, a role he held from nineteen seventy-one to nineteen seventy-four. Following this, he served as the coadjutor in Xalapa until he was appointed Archbishop of Xalapa in nineteen seventy-nine.

Throughout his tenure as Archbishop, which lasted until two thousand seven, Obeso Rivera was known for his dedication to the Church and his community. His leadership was marked by a commitment to pastoral care and social justice, making a significant impact on the lives of many in his archdiocese.

In recognition of his service and contributions to the Church, Pope Francis elevated him to the rank of cardinal on June twenty-eighth, two thousand eighteen. This honor reflected not only his years of faithful service but also his influence within the Catholic Church in Mexico.
