Serik Akhmetov, born on June twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-eight, is a prominent Kazakh politician and painter. His political career is marked by significant roles, including serving as the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan from September twenty-fourth, two thousand twelve, to two thousand fourteen. Prior to this, he held the position of Minister of Defense for a brief period in two thousand fourteen.
Akhmetov's journey in public service began as the first deputy akim of Astana, after which he was appointed Minister of Transport and Communications on September twenty-fifth, two thousand six. His leadership extended to the business sector as he became the Chairman of the Board of the Atameken National Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers of Kazakhstan in two thousand five.
In March two thousand nine, he ascended to the role of Deputy Prime Minister, later becoming the akim of the Karaganda Region in November of the same year. His political ascent continued when he was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister in January two thousand twelve, ultimately succeeding Karim Massimov as Prime Minister later that year.
However, Akhmetov's career faced challenges when he was arrested in November two thousand fourteen, accused of crimes related to his tenure as akim of Karaganda Region.
