Serzh Sargsyan, born on June thirtieth, nineteen fifty-four, is a prominent Armenian politician and military personnel. He served as the third President of Armenia from two thousand eight to two thousand eighteen, and held the position of Prime Minister twice, first from two thousand seven to two thousand eight and again briefly in April two thousand eighteen.
In February two thousand eight, Sargsyan won the presidential election with the support of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, which he chairs. He officially took office in April of the same year and was re-elected on February eighteenth, two thousand thirteen, serving his full term.
Despite his commitment in two thousand fourteen not to seek the prime ministership again, Sargsyan supported a constitutional amendment in two thousand fifteen that would enable such a move. In April two thousand eighteen, he was elected prime minister, a decision that was met with accusations of a power grab from opposition figures. However, just six days into his new term, he resigned amid widespread protests.
Currently, Sargsyan leads the Republican Party, which governed Armenia from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand eighteen and is now part of the opposition coalition known as the I Have Honor Alliance.
