Seungri, born on December 12, 1990, is a South Korean former singer-songwriter, actor, composer, and entrepreneur, best known as a member of the iconic boy band BigBang, formed by YG Entertainment. He gained prominence in the mid-2000s, particularly with the release of BigBang's second studio album, Remember, in 2008, which showcased his evolving artistry through a solo performance.
Seungri's career flourished with the release of his chart-topping EP, V.V.I.P, in 2011, featuring hit singles like 'VVIP' and 'What Can I Do'. His subsequent EP, Let's Talk About Love, released in 2013, solidified his status as a solo artist, selling eighty thousand copies and supported by the popular track 'Gotta Talk to You'. He later ventured into the Japanese market with a re-recorded version of his songs and released his first Korean studio album, The Great Seungri, in 2018.
In addition to his music career, Seungri made his theatrical debut in the musical Sonagi in 2008 and appeared in films such as Nineteen and Why Did You Come to My House? in 2009. He also ventured into television, starring in the Japanese drama Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo in 2013 and the South Korean series Angel Eyes in 2014.
However, Seungri's career took a dramatic turn when he departed from BigBang on March 11, 2019, amid allegations of providing sex workers for investors in his business ventures. Following a police investigation into the Burning Sun scandal, he faced charges of sexual bribery and embezzlement. In 2020, he was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison and fined one point fifteen billion won, a sentence later reduced to eighteen months after he admitted guilt and expressed remorse.
Seungri was released from prison on February 9, 2023, marking a significant chapter in his life as he reflects on his past actions and the impact of his career.
