Shabana Azmi

Shabana Azmi, born on September eighteenth, nineteen fifty, is a celebrated Indian actress renowned for her impactful contributions to film, television, and theatre. With a career that spans over one hundred sixty films, she has made a significant mark in the Hindi film industry, particularly within the realms of independent and neorealist parallel cinema. Azmi's versatility shines through her portrayals of distinctive and often unconventional female characters, earning her a reputation as one of India's most acclaimed actresses.

Born to the esteemed poet Kaifi Azmi and stage actress Shaukat Azmi, Shabana Azmi is an alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune. She made her film debut in nineteen seventy-four with the film Ankur, quickly establishing herself as a leading figure in parallel cinema, a movement characterized by its serious content and realism. She is married to the renowned poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar and serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA).
