Shamsia Hassani

Shamsia Hassani, born in 1988, is a pioneering Afghan street artist and a dedicated educator in the field of fine arts. As an associate professor of Drawing and Anatomy Drawing at Kabul University, she has made significant contributions to the academic landscape while simultaneously transforming the urban environment of Kabul through her vibrant graffiti.

Hassani has gained international recognition for her work, exhibiting her art in numerous countries including India, Iran, Germany, the United States, Switzerland, Vietnam, Norway, Australia, Denmark, Turkey, Italy, and Canada. Her art serves as a powerful medium to raise awareness about the impact of war on Afghan society, reflecting the struggles and resilience of her people.

In 2014, her influence was acknowledged when she was named one of Foreign Policy's top one hundred global thinkers. Furthermore, in 2021, she was celebrated as one of the BBC's 100 Women, highlighting her role as a leading figure in contemporary art and activism.
