Shamsul Maidin

Shamsul Maidin, born on April sixteenth, nineteen sixty-six, is a distinguished Singaporean association football referee whose career spans over two decades. He embarked on his refereeing journey in nineteen ninety-six and continued to officiate until his retirement in two thousand seven. His extensive experience has made him a prominent figure in Asian football.

Since two thousand sixteen, Shamsul has served as the Director of Referees for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), where he has played a pivotal role in advancing the standards of refereeing across Asia. His contributions as a match official, instructor, and manager have been invaluable, and he has been recognized for his excellence in officiating.

Shamsul's remarkable achievements include representing Asia at the two thousand six FIFA World Cup and the two thousand five FIFA Confederations Cup. He was honored as the AFC Official of the Year in both of those years and has received the S.League Referee of the Year award four times, in nineteen ninety-seven, nineteen ninety-eight, nineteen ninety-nine, and two thousand one.

In addition to his refereeing accolades, Shamsul has been involved in significant international events, including the two thousand twelve Summer Olympic Games in London and the two thousand ten FIFA World Cup in South Africa as part of the instructors' team. He has officiated at multiple AFC Asian Cup editions and FIFA World Youth Championships, showcasing his expertise on the global stage.

As the first Singaporean to hold the position of AFC's Director of Referees, Shamsul continues to lead the Referees Department, influencing the future of refereeing in Asia. He has also been a member of the FIFA Referees Committee since January two thousand seventeen and serves on the IFAB Technical Advisory Panel since two thousand sixteen, further solidifying his impact in the world of football.
