Shannon Szabados

Shannon Szabados, born on August sixth, nineteen eighty-six, is a trailblazing Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. Currently, she plays for the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) and represents the Canada women's national ice hockey team. Szabados has made significant strides in the sport, being the first female player in various tournaments and leagues, including minor, junior, and professional hockey.

Her journey began in junior hockey, where she made history as the first female to compete in the Western Hockey League (WHL), playing exhibition games for the Tri-City Americans. Szabados also became the first woman to participate in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), impressively recording a shutout in her debut game. Her outstanding performance during the 2006–07 season earned her the title of AJHL's Top Goaltender.

In the 2013–14 season, Szabados broke new ground by becoming the first woman to sign and play in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). Her international career is equally remarkable, as she represented Canada at the Winter Olympics in two thousand ten, two thousand fourteen, and two thousand eighteen, contributing to gold medal victories against the United States in both the 2010 and 2014 tournaments. Following the 2010 Olympics, she was honored as the Top Goaltender and selected for the Tournament All-Star Team.

On November twenty-first, two thousand fourteen, Szabados made history again by becoming the first female goaltender to win an SPHL game, leading the Cottonmouths to a thrilling five to four overtime victory against the Fayetteville FireAntz. Additionally, on December twenty-seventh, two thousand fifteen, she achieved another milestone by recording a shutout in a men's professional hockey league, making thirty-three saves in a three to zero win for the Cottonmouths over the Huntsville Havoc.
