Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Sharif Sheikh Ahmed

Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, born on July twenty-fifth, nineteen sixty-four, is a prominent Somali politician who held the office of the seventh President of Somalia from two thousand nine to two thousand twelve. His political journey began as the Chairman of the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) from two thousand four to two thousand seven, where he played a pivotal role in establishing control over Mogadishu and much of Somalia.

In mid-two thousand six, the ICU's rapid rise to power led to a full-scale Ethiopian invasion, resulting in the collapse of its governing body. In the aftermath, Sharif took the helm of the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) and, following the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops in January two thousand nine, he was elected President of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG).

During his presidency, Sharif faced significant challenges, including fierce opposition from militant groups such as Al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam. His administration struggled with governance issues and limited popular support, yet, with the backing of African Union forces, managed to drive Al-Shabaab out of Mogadishu by two thousand eleven. By the end of his term, the TFG transitioned into the Federal Government of Somalia, but Sharif was ultimately defeated in the two thousand twelve presidential election by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

After leaving office, Sharif founded the Islamic democratic Himilo Qaran political party and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Forum for National Parties during the two thousand twenty-two Somali Elections. He also serves as the chairperson of the Council of Presidential Candidates of Somalia and co-established the Somali Salvation Forum in Mogadishu in two thousand twenty-five.
