Sharon Donnelly, born on August twenty-fourth, nineteen sixty-six, is a distinguished Canadian athlete known for her remarkable achievements in triathlon and swimming. A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada in nineteen ninety, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Commerce and served as an Army Logistics Officer for five years, showcasing her dedication and discipline.
In nineteen ninety-nine, Donnelly made her mark by winning a gold medal at the Pan American Games held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her ambition led her to pursue a spot on the Olympic team for the two thousand Summer Olympics, where she competed in the inaugural Olympic triathlon event. Despite finishing in thirty-eighth place with a time of two hours, fourteen minutes, and thirty-five seconds, her journey did not end there.
Determined to qualify for the two thousand four Olympics, Donnelly continued to race but narrowly missed inclusion by a mere twenty-two seconds. She served as a Team Alternate for the Athens Olympics in two thousand four, a testament to her competitive spirit and resilience. After retiring from both the sport and the Reserves in the fall of two thousand four, she took on the role of Race Director for the inaugural Canadian Forces Base triathlon in Kingston, Ontario.
Transitioning into education, Donnelly taught physical education at Saint Lawrence College and coached local junior and age group triathletes. In two thousand six, she relocated to Colorado Springs, where she has since contributed her expertise as an assistant National Triathlon Team coach at the United States Olympic Training Centre, continuing to inspire the next generation of athletes.
