Shaul Mofaz, born on November fourth, nineteen forty-eight, is a distinguished retired Israeli military officer and politician. His military career began in nineteen sixty-six when he joined the Israel Defense Forces, serving in the Paratroopers Brigade. Mofaz demonstrated exceptional bravery and skill during several key conflicts, including the Six-Day War, Yom Kippur War, and the 1982 Lebanon War, as well as Operation Entebbe, where he served with the elite special forces unit, Sayeret Matkal.
In nineteen ninety-eight, Mofaz ascended to the role of the sixteenth Chief of Staff of the IDF, a position he held until two thousand two. His leadership during this critical period was marked by significant military and strategic developments. Mofaz is of Iranian Jewish descent, which adds to the rich tapestry of his identity and experiences.
Transitioning from military to politics, Mofaz was appointed Minister of Defense in two thousand two, a role he maintained until two thousand six. He then entered the Knesset as a member of the Kadima party, where he served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transportation and Road Safety until two thousand nine. His political journey continued as he became the leader of Kadima in March two thousand twelve, taking on the role of Leader of the Opposition.
During a brief period, Mofaz returned to the cabinet, serving as Acting Prime Minister, Vice Prime Minister, and Minister without Portfolio. However, following a significant decline in Kadima's representation in the two thousand thirteen elections, where the party was reduced to just two seats, Mofaz decided to retire from politics shortly before the two thousand fifteen elections.
