Shaun Murphy, an English professional snooker player, was born on August 10, 1982, in Harlow, Essex. Raised in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire, he turned professional in 1998 and quickly made a name for himself in the world of snooker. Known as 'The Magician', Murphy is celebrated for his straight cue action and exceptional long potting skills.
His career reached a significant milestone in 2005 when he won the World Championship, a victory that surprised many as he became only the third qualifier to achieve this feat, following in the footsteps of legends Alex Higgins and Terry Griffiths. Since that remarkable win, Murphy has been a formidable presence in the sport, finishing as runner-up at the World Championship three times in 2009, 2015, and 2021.
Over the years, Murphy has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including twelve ranking titles, with the UK Championship in 2009 being a highlight that places him tenth on the all-time list of ranking tournament victories. His triumphs also include twelve non-ranking tournaments, notably the 2015 Masters, which completed his career Triple Crown, and the 2025 Masters.
With over four million pounds in prize money and more than seven hundred century breaks to his name, including ten maximum breaks, Murphy has solidified his status as one of the sport's greats. His highest world ranking was number three, a position he maintained for three consecutive seasons following the 2007–08 season.
