Sheila E.

Sheila Cecilia Escovedo, born on December 12, 1957, in Oakland, California, is a celebrated American singer, songwriter, musician, and actress. Known by her stage name Sheila E., she has earned acclaim as one of the greatest percussionists of her generation, often referred to as the 'Queen of Percussion.' Her musical repertoire spans a diverse array of genres, including R&B, funk, jazz, pop, synth-pop, Latin pop, and salsa.

Sheila's journey in music began in the mid-seventies when she joined the George Duke Band as a percussionist, a role she held from nineteen seventy-six to nineteen eighty. Her breakthrough came with the release of her debut album, 'The Glamorous Life,' in nineteen eighty-four under Warner Bros. Records. The album featured hit singles such as 'The Glamorous Life' and 'The Belle of St. Mark,' both of which achieved international success and garnered four Grammy Award nominations, including one for Best New Artist.

Following her debut, Sheila E. continued to captivate audiences with her follow-up album, 'Romance 1600,' released in nineteen eighty-five, which produced the chart-topping hit 'A Love Bizarre.' She further solidified her place in the music industry with two additional albums on Warner Bros. Records: 'Sheila E.' in nineteen eighty-seven and 'Sex Cymbal' in nineteen ninety-one.

In recognition of her contributions to music, Sheila E. received a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in twenty twenty-one and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in July twenty twenty-three. Most recently, in April twenty twenty-four, she released her tenth album, 'Bailar,' featuring the single 'Bemba Colorá,' which won a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance at the sixty-seventh Annual Grammy Awards.
