Sher Bahadur Deuba

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Sher Bahadur Deuba

Sher Bahadur Deuba, born on June thirteenth, nineteen forty-six, is a prominent Nepalese politician known for his extensive tenure as the prime minister of Nepal, serving five terms from nineteen ninety-five to two thousand two, two thousand four to two thousand five, two thousand seventeen to two thousand eighteen, and two thousand twenty-one to two thousand twenty-two. He has also held the position of president of the Nepali Congress since two thousand sixteen, a role he is expected to maintain until two thousand twenty-six.

Raised in Ashigram, a remote village in the Ganyapdhura Rural Municipality of Dadeldhura, Deuba completed his primary education locally before moving to Doti for secondary schooling. He pursued higher education at Tri-Chandra College, which laid the foundation for his political career. His entry into politics began in nineteen ninety-one when he was elected to the House of Representatives and appointed as the Minister of Home Affairs in Girija Prasad Koirala's cabinet.

Deuba's political journey has been marked by significant events, including the signing of the Mahakali treaty with India during his first term as prime minister. His second term commenced in July two thousand one, amid rising Maoist insurgency, leading him to declare a state of emergency and label the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) as a terrorist organization. Although dismissed by King Gyanendra in October two thousand two, public outcry led to his reappointment in June two thousand four. His political resilience was further tested when he was arrested following the two thousand five coup d'état, only to be released in February two thousand six after the Supreme Court deemed his arrest unlawful.

In June two thousand seventeen, Deuba was sworn in for a fourth term as prime minister, following an agreement to form a rotational government with the CPN (Maoist Centre). His government successfully conducted elections at all three levels of government in different phases that year. On July twelfth, two thousand twenty-one, the Supreme Court mandated his appointment as prime minister within twenty-eight hours, leading to his fifth term the following day, appointed by President Bidya Devi Bhandari in accordance with Article seventy-six, subsection five of the Constitution of Nepal.
