Shi Lang, born on March 7, 1621, was a prominent Chinese admiral whose career spanned the tumultuous transition between the Ming and Qing dynasties. Known as Marquis Jinghai, he played a pivotal role in the naval conflicts of the seventeenth century, particularly in the struggle against the forces of Zheng Chenggong's descendants.
In the 1660s, Shi Lang commanded the Qing fleets, leading decisive campaigns that effectively dismantled the power of the Zheng family. His strategic prowess culminated in the conquest of the Kingdom of Tungning in Taiwan in 1683, a significant achievement that marked the Qing dynasty's expansion into the region.
Following his military successes, Shi Lang was appointed to govern parts of Taiwan, where he served as a marquis. His leadership not only solidified Qing control over the island but also laid the groundwork for future governance and development in Taiwan.
