Shihab al-Din 'Umar al-Suhrawardi, born in the year eleven forty-five, was a prominent Persian Sufi theologian, diplomat, and philosopher. As the nephew of the esteemed Abu al-Najib Suhrawardi, he inherited a rich intellectual legacy that he would expand upon throughout his life.
Umar al-Suhrawardi played a pivotal role in the development of the Sufi order known as Suhrawardiyya, which was originally established by his uncle. His efforts were instrumental in formalizing the order, ensuring its teachings and practices were preserved and disseminated effectively.
Among his notable contributions to Sufi literature is the revered work titled ʿAwārif al-Maʿārif. This masterpiece is celebrated for its profound insights into Tasawwuf, reflecting Suhrawardi's deep understanding of spiritual matters and his commitment to the Sufi path.
