Shin Saimdang

Shin Saimdang, born on October twenty-ninth, fifteen hundred and four, was a distinguished Korean artist, writer, calligraphist, and poet during the Joseon period. Hailing from Gangneung in Gangwon Province, her legacy is closely tied to her birthplace, Ojukheon, which remains a well-preserved testament to her family's history.

As the mother of the renowned Confucian scholar Yi I, Shin Saimdang is often celebrated as a paragon of Confucian ideals. Her respectful nickname, Eojin, meaning 'Wise Mother,' reflects her esteemed role in both her family and society. Her real name, Shin In-seon, is less known than her pen names, which include Saim, Saimdang, Inimdang, and Imsajae, each representing different facets of her artistic and literary contributions.
