Shirin Ebadi

Shirin Ebadi, born on June twenty-first, nineteen forty-seven, is a distinguished Iranian lawyer, writer, and human rights defender. She made history as the first Iranian to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in two thousand three, recognized for her groundbreaking work in advocating for democracy and the rights of women, children, and refugees. Her commitment to justice and equality has made her a prominent figure in the global human rights movement.

As a former judge and the founder of the Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran, Ebadi has dedicated her life to fighting for the oppressed. Since two thousand nine, she has lived in exile in London, continuing her advocacy from abroad.

In March two thousand twenty-six, Iranian opposition leader Reza Pahlavi announced that Ebadi would lead a committee focused on drafting regulations for transitional justice in Iran. This initiative aims to establish a framework for a court and a fact-finding commission to address the human rights violations that occurred under the Islamic Republic.
