Shirley Hufstedler

Shirley Hufstedler, born on August twenty-four, nineteen twenty-five, was a trailblazing American attorney and judge. She made history as the first United States Secretary of Education, serving from nineteen seventy-nine to nineteen eighty-one. Her appointment by President Jimmy Carter marked a significant milestone, as she became the highest-ranking woman in the U.S. federal judiciary at that time.

Before her pivotal role in the presidential cabinet, Hufstedler served as a U.S. circuit judge on the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals from nineteen sixty-eight to nineteen seventy-nine.
