Shō Hashi

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Shō Hashi

Shō Hashi, born in the year thirteen seventy-one, emerged as a pivotal figure in the history of Okinawa. As the son of Shishō, the lord of the First Shō dynasty, he was destined for greatness. His early years were marked by a connection to a lineage of seafarers from Kyushu, hinting at a rich heritage that would influence his future endeavors.

In the year thirteen ninety-two, Hashi ascended to the role of lord of Sashiki Castle in southern Okinawa, quickly establishing himself as a formidable military leader. His rise to power was further solidified in fourteen oh seven when he orchestrated a coup d'état that placed his father on the throne of Chūzan, following a diplomatic incident with the Ming dynasty.

Upon the death of Shishō, Hashi became the king of Chūzan, continuing the tributary and trade relations with the Ming dynasty. His reign was characterized by military campaigns against rival kingdoms, Sannan and Sanhoku, ultimately leading to his recognition as the sole Ming tributary in Okinawa by the year fourteen thirty.

Hashi's legacy includes the erection of the earliest inscribed stele in Okinawa at Shuri Castle in fourteen twenty-seven. His reign came to an end in fourteen thirty-nine, after which he was laid to rest in a cave tomb near Shuri. His death marked the beginning of a tumultuous period of succession among his descendants, setting the stage for the future kingship of Shō Taikyū.
