Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, born on December 6, 1994, is a prominent Indian international cricketer who has made significant strides in the world of cricket. A right-handed batter, he showcases his skills primarily as a top-order or middle-order player across all formats of the game. Iyer not only represents the India national team but also plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and currently captains the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Making his international debut in 2017, Iyer quickly established himself as a key player in India's limited-overs teams. His Test debut against New Zealand in November 2021 was historic, as he became the first Indian to score a century in his first innings and a half-century in his second. Earlier in his career, he showcased his talent by representing the India Under-19s at the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

In major international tournaments, Iyer played a crucial role in the Indian squad that finished as runners-up at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where he notably scored a century against New Zealand in the semi-final. He was also part of the victorious teams in the 2023 Asia Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. His exceptional performances earned him the title of ICC Men's Player of the Month in February 2022 and March 2025.

Iyer's IPL journey began with the Delhi Daredevils, now known as the Delhi Capitals, in 2015, where he won the Emerging Player of the Year award in his debut season. He played for the franchise until 2021 before captaining the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2022 to 2024, leading them to an IPL title in 2024. In 2025, he made headlines by being signed by the Punjab Kings for twenty-six point seventy-five crore rupees, briefly becoming the most expensive player in IPL auction history.
