Shu-turul

Shu-turul, the last king of Akkad, ruled for a notable fifteen years, as recorded in the Sumerian king list. His reign marked the end of an era for the Akkadian Empire, which had significantly diminished in size and influence.

Ascending to the throne after his father Dudu, Shu-turul presided over a greatly reduced territory that included key cities such as Kish, Tutub, Nippur, and Eshnunna. Despite the challenges of his time, he managed to maintain a semblance of authority over these regions.

Artifacts and seal impressions from his reign provide valuable insights into his rule, illustrating the cultural and political landscape of the period. Notably, the Diyala River was referred to as 'Shu-durul' during his time, further cementing his legacy in the region.
