Shushanik Kurghinian, born on August eighteenth, eighteen seventy-six, was a pioneering Armenian poet and autobiographer who played a crucial role in the evolution of socialist and feminist poetry within Armenian literature. Her work is often celebrated for giving a voice to the voiceless, and she viewed her poetic endeavors as deeply political.

Her literary journey began in eighteen ninety-nine with the publication of her first poem in the journal Taraz, followed by her inaugural short story in the journal Aghbyur in the year two thousand. Kurghinian's commitment to social change led her to establish the first Hunchakian women's political group in Alexandropol. However, the oppressive tsarist regime forced her to flee to Rostov on Don to avoid arrest.
