Siberian Ice Maiden

The Siberian Ice Maiden, a remarkable mummy of a woman from the fifth century BC, was discovered in 1993 within a kurgan associated with the Pazyryk culture in the Republic of Altai, Russia. This extraordinary find is considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Russia during the late twentieth century, shedding light on the ancient nomadic cultures of the region.

Known as Ochy-bala in the Altaic epic, the Ice Maiden's well-preserved remains provide invaluable insights into the customs, attire, and lifestyle of the Pazyryk people. Her burial site, rich with artifacts, reflects the intricate burial practices and the social status of individuals in that era.
