Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Silvia Poll

Silvia Poll, born on September twenty-fourth, nineteen seventy in Managua, Nicaragua, is a distinguished swimmer and diplomat from Costa Rica. She made history at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where she won the silver medal in the women's 200 meter freestyle, marking the first Olympic medal for Costa Rica. This remarkable achievement not only established her as a national icon but also set the stage for her sister Claudia, who would later follow in her footsteps.

Poll's swimming prowess was evident long before her Olympic success. At the 1987 Pan American Games, she secured an impressive total of eight medals, with two of her times from those Games still standing as Costa Rican records in two thousand nine for the 100 meter freestyle and 100 meter backstroke. Her competitive spirit shone brightly at the 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games, where she set records in the women's 200 and 400 meter freestyle, as well as the 100 meter and 200 meter backstroke, all of which remained unbroken until her sister surpassed them in two thousand six.

Raised in a family of German descent, Silvia and her sister Claudia moved to Costa Rica with their mother after the devastating Nicaragua earthquake in nineteen seventy-two. Despite the challenges of their early life, the Poll sisters emerged as trailblazers in Costa Rican sports, with Silvia's achievements paving the way for future generations of athletes.

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Silvia Poll is a member of the 'Champions for Peace' club, an initiative by Peace and Sport, an international organization based in Monaco. This group of elite athletes is dedicated to promoting peace through sport, showcasing Poll's commitment to making a positive impact beyond the swimming pool.
