Silvia Ruegger

Silvia Ruegger, born on February 23, 1961, in Oshawa, Ontario, was a remarkable long-distance runner who made her mark on the international athletics scene. Growing up just south of the village of Newtonville, Ontario, she developed a passion for running that would lead her to compete at the highest levels.

In 1984, Ruegger represented Canada at the Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, California. She showcased her exceptional talent by finishing eighth in the women's marathon, a testament to her dedication and skill in the sport.

Her most notable achievement came in 1985 when she triumphed at the Houston Marathon, completing the race in an impressive time of two hours, twenty-eight minutes, and thirty-six seconds. This victory solidified her status as one of Canada's top long-distance runners.

Sadly, Silvia Ruegger passed away in August 2019 at the age of fifty-eight, leaving behind a legacy of athletic excellence and inspiring future generations of runners.
