Simeon Uroš

Simeon Uroš, born in the year 1326, emerged as a significant figure in the history of the Serbian Empire. He was the son of Serbian King Stephen Uroš III and Byzantine Princess Maria Palaiologina. His early career began with the title of despot in 1346, followed by his appointment as the governor of southern Epirus and Acarnania in 1347, a position granted by his half-brother, Serbian Emperor Stephen Dušan.

Following the death of Dušan in 1355, the Serbian throne was inherited by Dušan's son, Stephen Uroš V. However, Simeon Uroš saw an opportunity to assert his influence and began to position himself as a co-ruler, claiming authority over the southern provinces of the Serbian Empire. This ambition led to a conflict with his nephew in 1356, as Simeon sought to expand his dominion into Thessaly and Macedonia.

In a bold move, he proclaimed himself Emperor of the Serbs and Greeks, establishing a separate state that centered around Thessaly and Epirus. His reign lasted until his death in 1370, during which he navigated the complexities of power and regional politics. Simeon Uroš's legacy continued through his son, Jovan Uroš, who succeeded him, ensuring the continuation of his lineage and influence.
