Simon Aspelin

Simon Aspelin, born on May eleventh, nineteen seventy-four, is a former professional tennis doubles player from Sweden who turned professional in nineteen ninety-eight. His career was marked by significant achievements in doubles, including winning twelve titles and reaching a career-high ranking of World No. seven in March two thousand eight. Aspelin's most notable triumph came at the 2007 US Open, where he, alongside partner Julian Knowle, captured his first Grand Slam title.

During the 2007 US Open, Aspelin and Knowle, seeded tenth, showcased their skills by defeating several formidable opponents. They began with victories over Kubot/Skoch and received a walkover against Calleri/Horna. In a stunning upset, they overcame the eighth seeds Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram in the third round, followed by a remarkable win against the top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan in the quarterfinals. They ultimately triumphed in the final against the ninth seeds Pavel Vízner and Lukáš Dlouhý, solidifying Aspelin's place in tennis history.

Aspelin's career also included a memorable performance at the 2008 Summer Olympics, where he and fellow Swede Thomas Johansson battled through a grueling semi-final match against the French pair Michaël Llodra and Arnaud Clément, winning in a nail-biting finish that lasted four hours and forty-six minutes. This victory led them to secure a silver medal.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Aspelin spent four seasons at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where he earned All-American status all four years. His contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Pepperdine Hall of Fame in the fall of two thousand ten and the ITA Hall of Fame in May two thousand eleven. After announcing his retirement in July two thousand eleven, Aspelin played his final tournament in Båstad, where he reached the final but fell short of claiming his thirteenth ATP title.
