Simon Harris

Simon Harris, born on October seventeenth, nineteen eighty-six, is a prominent Irish politician representing Fine Gael. He has held the esteemed position of Tánaiste and Minister for Finance since two thousand twenty-five, following a remarkable tenure as Taoiseach from two thousand twenty-four to two thousand twenty-five. Harris has been a dedicated member of the Dáil Éireann, serving the Wicklow constituency since two thousand eleven, and has been a Cabinet minister since two thousand sixteen.

Hailing from Greystones, Harris's political journey began in his teenage years, where he passionately advocated for children with autism and attention deficit disorder. His political career took off when he was elected to Wicklow County Council during the two thousand nine local elections. At the age of twenty-four, he became the youngest member of the Dáil Éireann after winning a seat in the two thousand eleven general election.

In two thousand fourteen, he was appointed Minister of State at the Department of Finance, and two years later, he took on the role of Minister for Health in the Fine Gael minority government. His influence grew further when he became Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science in the coalition government formed in two thousand twenty. Additionally, he briefly served as Minister for Justice from December two thousand twenty-two to June two thousand twenty-three.

After Leo Varadkar's resignation in March two thousand twenty-four, Harris emerged as the sole candidate in the Fine Gael leadership election, leading to his appointment as Taoiseach on April ninth, two thousand twenty-four. At thirty-seven, he made history as the youngest individual to hold this office, earning the nickname 'TikTok Taoiseach' for his adept use of social media.
