Simon of Sicily, born in the year one thousand ninety-three, was the eldest son of Roger, Grand Count of Sicily, and Adelaide del Vasto. His early life was marked by a playful rivalry with his younger brother, Roger, which foreshadowed their future roles in the political landscape of Sicily. The chronicler Alexander of Telese recounts a childhood incident where the brothers, engaged in a coin game, ended up in a playful fight. In this contest, Roger emerged victorious, teasing Simon about the prospect of ruling after their father's death.

Ascending to the county at a tender age in one thousand one, Simon's reign was brief yet significant. His tenure was characterized by the regency of his mother, Adelaide, as he navigated the complexities of leadership during his formative years. Despite the challenges, Simon's position as the heir to the Grand Count laid the groundwork for the future of Sicilian governance.

Tragically, Simon's life was cut short when he passed away in Mileto, Calabria, in one thousand one hundred five, just four years after taking on the mantle of leadership. His untimely death paved the way for his brother Roger to ascend as the King of Sicily, marking a pivotal transition in the region's history.
