Sisowath Monivong

Sisowath Monivong, born on December twenty-seventh, eighteen seventy-five, ascended to the throne as the King of Cambodia on August ninth, nineteen twenty-seven. His reign lasted until his death in nineteen forty-one, during a period when Cambodia was under the French protectorate. Monivong's lineage is notable; he was the grandson of the esteemed poet-king Ang Duong and the grandfather of Norodom Sihanouk, who would later become a significant figure in Cambodian history.

His full regnal title, Preah Bat Samdech Preah Serey Monivarman Krom Luang Chao Chakrabangsa Sisowath Monivong Ney Preah Reacheanachak Kampuchea, reflects his royal stature and the rich cultural heritage of Cambodia. This title can be translated from Khmerized Sanskrit as 'His majesty, glorious lord scholar-protector; His highness, lord of land and sea, Sisowath Monivong of the Kingdom of Kampuchea.' Such a title underscores the respect and reverence held for him during his reign.

As the most recent male monarch from the House of Sisowath, Monivong's legacy is significant, particularly as all his successors belong to the House of Norodom.
