Sobhuza II

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Sobhuza II

Sobhuza II, born on July 22, 1899, at Zombodze Royal Residence, was a remarkable figure in the history of Swaziland, now known as Eswatini. He ascended to the throne at a tender age, following the untimely death of his father, King Ngwane V, when Sobhuza was merely four months old. His early years were guided by his grandmother, Labotsibeni, and his uncle, Prince Malunge, who led the nation until he reached maturity in 1921.

His reign, which lasted an astonishing eighty-two years and two hundred fifty-four days, is recognized as the longest verifiable reign of any monarch in recorded history. Sobhuza was officially acknowledged as King by the British in 1967, paving the way for Swaziland's independence in 1968. His leadership was marked by significant political changes and the establishment of a new national identity.

Continuing to reign until his death in 1982, Sobhuza II left a profound legacy. He was succeeded by his young son, Mswati III, with Inkhosikati Ntfombi Tfwala, who was crowned in 1986. Sobhuza's life and reign remain a testament to the resilience and cultural heritage of the Swazi people.
