Sofia Jannok

Sofia Jannok, born on September fifteenth, nineteen eighty-two, is a prominent Swedish Sámi artist known for her multifaceted talents as a singer, songwriter, and television presenter. Her music, which draws inspiration from a rich tapestry of genres including folk, pop, jazz, and yoik, primarily features lyrics in Northern Sámi, though she also composes in Swedish and English.

Beyond her musical endeavors, Jannok is a passionate advocate for Sámi rights, particularly in her opposition to mining activities that threaten the traditional lands of Sámi reindeer herders. Her commitment to social issues is evident in her active presence on social media, where she raises awareness about the challenges faced by her community.

In addition to her artistic contributions, Sofia has made her mark in broadcasting. She co-hosted the Liet-Lávlut music festival in two thousand six alongside Mariela Idivuoma and has hosted the program "Mailbmi – small people great music" on Swedish Radio P2.
