Soghomon Tehlirian

Soghomon Tehlirian, born on April second, nineteen ninety-six, emerged as a pivotal figure in Armenian history. A revolutionary and soldier, he is best known for his audacious act of assassinating Talaat Pasha, the former Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire, in Berlin on March fifteenth, nineteen twenty-one. This act was not merely personal; it was a calculated move within the broader context of Operation Nemesis, a campaign orchestrated by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation aimed at avenging the Armenian genocide.

Tehlirian's motivations were deeply rooted in the atrocities committed against the Armenian people during World War I. Talaat Pasha, who had been convicted in absentia for his role in the genocide during the Turkish courts-martial of nineteen nineteen to twenty, was seen as the principal architect of these horrific events. Tehlirian's earlier assassination of Harutian Mgrditichian, an operative of the Ottoman secret police, further underscored his commitment to this cause.

Following the assassination, Tehlirian faced a trial that lasted two days, where he was ultimately acquitted by a German court.
