Solange Chaput-Rolland

Solange Chaput-Rolland, born on May fourteenth, nineteen nineteen, in Montreal, was a multifaceted Canadian figure known for her contributions as a journalist, author, lecturer, and politician. She was the daughter of Émile Chaput and Rosalie Loranger, and her educational journey took her through the Couvent d'Outremont, the Sorbonne, and the Institut Catholique de Paris.

In the 1950s, Solange made her mark in journalism, working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation alongside a young Jeanne Sauvé, with whom she maintained a lasting friendship until Sauvé's passing. Her career in public service began in earnest when she was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in a by-election in nineteen seventy-nine, representing the riding of Prevost, although she faced defeat in nineteen eighty-one.

Her political journey continued as she was appointed to the Senate in nineteen eighty-eight, representing the senatorial division of Mille Isles, Quebec. As a member of the Progressive Conservative party, she served until her retirement in nineteen ninety-four. Her contributions to Canadian society were recognized when she was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in nineteen seventy-five and later an Officer of the National Order of Quebec in nineteen eighty-five.

In her personal life, Solange married André Rolland in nineteen forty-one, further intertwining her legacy with that of her family. Her brother, Yves Chaput, was married to Françoise Poliquin, linking her to notable figures in Canadian history.
