Solfrid Koanda, born on November thirteenth, nineteen ninety-eight, is a remarkable Norwegian weightlifter who has made history in her sport. She is celebrated as the first female Norwegian weightlifter to achieve Olympic champion status, as well as the first to become World and European champion. Her journey began in Oulu, Finland, where she was born to a Finnish mother and an Ivorian father, before relocating to Norway at the age of nine.
Throughout her early years, Solfrid faced challenges with self-confidence, often training alone in a weight room. Her life took a transformative turn when she entered foster care, which led her to discover CrossFit. It was through this avenue that she was introduced to weightlifting by a CrossFit coach who recognized her potential in both disciplines.
In a short span of time, Solfrid qualified for her first competition, where she impressively set a national record. Her talent shone through as she progressed to the 2021 European Weightlifting Championships, earning a bronze medal and establishing new national records. Later that year, she made her debut at the World Weightlifting Championships, where she again secured a bronze medal.
Koanda's accolades continued to grow as she clinched four Kongepokals and triumphed at the European Weightlifting Championships in twenty twenty-two, twenty twenty-three, and twenty twenty-four. Her crowning achievement came at the twenty twenty-four Summer Olympics, where she not only won the gold medal but also set new Olympic records, earning her the title of Female Athlete of the Year at the twenty twenty-five Idrettsgallaen.
